The article discusses insights from Mark Singer, CMO at Deloitte Digital, who emphasizes the evolving role of marketing leaders in today's business landscape. He argues that successful CMOs are not only embracing AI but also navigating ambiguity and uncertainty, positioning them as potential future CEOs. This shift reflects a broader trend where marketing is becoming integral to organizational strategy, especially in leveraging technology for growth.
For small business owners, this perspective is crucial. As marketing becomes more intertwined with overall business strategy, operators should consider how their marketing leaders can drive innovation and adaptability. Embracing AI tools and fostering a culture of experimentation can empower CMOs to take on more significant roles, potentially leading to transformative changes within the organization. However, it's essential to balance this ambition with practical strategies that ensure not every risk leads to failure.
Takeaway: Empower your marketing leaders to embrace AI and innovation to drive your business forward.

“There is no playbook for how marketing is working today,” said Mark Singer, chief marketing officer at Deloitte Digital.
Successful CMOs have to be “entrepreneurial and very comfortable in ambiguity,” Singer said. That requires a kind of bravery, he said, not only about trying new things but also being ok knowing that not every experiment is not going to pay off.
Singer said that CMOs are in a position to be the next CEOs, “because they are the ones really looking across the organization helping to shape what works,” especially as early adopters of AI tools and strategy.
