UpTrajectory

Editorial Methodology

UpTrajectory exists to cover small businesses with the seriousness national outlets reserve for large ones. This page explains how we source, write, edit, and use technology to do that.

Editorial independence

Bob Babcock is the final editorial authority for every piece published on UpTrajectory. No advertiser, sponsor, investor, or subject of coverage has authority to approve, reject, or edit editorial content. Pre-publication review by subjects is limited to fact-checking specific quotes and statistics — never to approving framing.

Sourcing

  • Interviews are on the record unless we state otherwise. Off-the-record material may inform reporting but is not published verbatim.
  • Anonymity is granted sparingly and only when (a) the source faces a credible professional or legal risk from being named, and (b) the information cannot be obtained another way. The reason for anonymity is disclosed in the piece.
  • Statistical claims require a citable source. Privately-supplied numbers are labeled as such.
  • We link to primary sources whenever they are public.

Fact-checking

Every name, title, date, dollar figure, and quoted attribution is verified before publication. Interview subjects may review direct quotes attributed to them for accuracy. They may not review the surrounding analysis or framing.

Use of AI tooling

UpTrajectory uses AI tooling as part of our editorial workflow. We are transparent about this because we believe disclosure is the right standard.

  • Syndicated news summaries — items in the “From the Field” section are summaries of third-party reporting, generated with AI assistance and labeled as syndicated. Each item links back to the original source.
  • Original interviews and analysis — the flagship interviews and editorial essays are reported and written by humans. AI tooling may be used for research, transcript cleanup, headline drafting, or copy-editing, but the reporting and analytical claims are human work.
  • Quality threshold — AI-assisted summary content is scored by an internal classifier before publication. Pieces below our quality threshold are not published. Pieces near the threshold are reviewed by an editor before publication.
  • Disclosure — we will label any piece that is substantially AI-drafted. Light AI assistance (copy-editing, research) is treated like any other newsroom tool and is not separately labeled.

We do not publish AI-generated content at scale without editorial oversight, and we do not publish AI-generated material represented as original human reporting.

Conflicts of interest

UpTrajectory is owned by EEZYCORP LLC, which also operates a suite of small-business software products under the EEZY brand. When we cover a company, technology, or industry where EEZYCORP has a commercial interest, we disclose it in the article. We do not cover EEZYCORP products as straight news.

Advertising and sponsorship

Any paid placement is clearly labeled “Sponsored” or “Partner Content” and is visually distinct from editorial. Sponsors have no input on editorial selection or framing. We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage in news, analysis, or interview sections.

Reader feedback

We read every reader email and take seriously both kinds — the ones telling us we got something wrong and the ones telling us we got something right.
